Snowman Cupcake Pops

Snowman Cupcake Pops

It may not be Christmas anymore but where we live it is still very much winter and we have snow!!! In the spirit of the snowstorm we had a few days ago my children and I made these adorable Snowman Cupcake Pops to enter in Osterville's 4th Annual Chocolate Dessert contest. Guess what? My kids won most creative! The best part was making the cupcake pops together though and not only did we have a great time we think they came out pretty cute ~ not to mention that they are soooo delicious.

Cupcake Pop Recipe (my favorite cupcake pop dough):
1 Package Oreo Cookies
1 Package Cream Cheese

I don't really have exact measurements but it really is a personal preference. Grind the Oreo Cookie and then mix in the cream cheese. Adding more cream cheese makes the dough more creamy and a little harder to work with. Adding less cream cheese can make the dough easier to work with but be careful it doesn't get too dry because then it has a tendency to crumble. This recipe is so easy and it is no bake so it is very fast and tastes really, really good. Who doesn't like Oreo's?

Decorations:
White Chocolate Melts
Gum Paste

Wilton Coloring (black for the hat and any color you choose for the scarf)
Sprinkles for decorating

These Snowman Pops are actually very easy to make ~ with a little patience and practice. Make the dough and roll two size balls as pictured above. Larger for the body, smaller for the head. Melt your white chocolate but let it cool down until it is just warm and not runny. Put the larger ball on a pop stick with a little room left at the top for the smaller ball to go on next. I dip the larger ball first and roll it into the sprinkles and let it harden. Now stick the smaller ball on and repeat. Now you are ready to decorate.

Hat:
Color gum paste with black coloring. I rolled out my gum paste flat and found a small cap that I used to cup a round disc for the bottom of my hat. To make the top I cut a strip of gum paste and rolled it up like a sleeping bag until it was the desired size and put that on top of my base. I covered the top of my hat with another piece of gum paste cut to size.

Eyes:
Black gum paste balls flattened. For this you need just a tiny bit!

Nose:
Orange heart sprinkle cut in half. You can also color some gum paste orange and make your own.

Scarf:
The pink rolled gum paste picture above is how I made the scarf. I just cut a long strip and wrapped it around the neck of the snowman. As you can see by the picture above (of the undecorated snowman) the neck can get clumpy with dried chocolate. You can chip some of this away to clean it up a bit before you put on the scarf. I cut the scarf to size and added the cuts at the bottom to give it character. Then add a couple of sprinkles with melted white chocolate as the glue to decorate where you cinch the gum paste at the neck.

Buttons:
Buttons can be made of sprinkles or gum paste and glued on with white chocolate.

That's it! Now let's see what you come up with. Email me pics!!!

I love the little snowman!! (great photo too by the way) I will definitely try those at some point although right now I am hoping for spring, so maybe build it into an easter theme... Hmm, need to think about that.
